Checking the Speed of your connection

There are two popular sites that internet service providers use to find out how fast a customer's connection is.

The most popular, I believe, is Speedtest.net:

The other one would be Speakeasy. This one I haven't really tried but this is supposed to be as good as Speedtest.net

Verizon LTE

Verizon LTE.
It the commercial doesn't say much. And their website is just flashy. It's supposed to be faster than WiMax but the device options are limited to just USB modems. It's also more expensive than WiMax providers with no options for 3G. I see a lot of down side to this technology but there's also a lot of potential. I guess this is the best we've got so far until the REAL 4G technology is invented.

Original Clearspot

The original clearspot.
Although Clear doesn't sell these babies anymore there are people who still use it.
It requires the Motorola USB modem for it to function making it simply a portable wi-fi router.

What is LTE?

LTE(Long Term Evolution)
Another supposedly 4G technology. It is said to be faster than WiMax. It's ideally intended to have 100Mbps download rate. But so far Verizon LTE only offer 5-12Mbps.

Clear

One of the leading companies when it comes to wireless broadband. What's great about this company is that they are not a cellphone provider. They focus solely on providing customers with wireless broadband. They even have a partnership with Sprint to provide us with optional 3G signal whenever we are in an area outside their 4G coverage. In turn Clear provides 4G services for Sprint. And because of this Clear can provide customers a cheaper offer if you subscribe with them directly.

CLEAR is the brand name for the super fast mobile Internet products and services offered to consumers and businesses by Clearwire.
CLEAR leverages a data centric all-IP network architecture, unrivaled wireless spectrum portfolio and advanced mobile broadband technology to enable users to stay connected to the online services and applications that matter most wherever the day may take them.
CLEAR is available in dozens of markets across the Unites States and the Clearwire network is the 4G network of choice for leading partners and investors such as: Intel, Comcast, Sprint, Google, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks.

Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR), through its operating subsidiaries, is a leading provider of mobile broadband services. Our 4G network is currently available in areas of the U.S. where 41 million people live and the company plans to continue to expand our 4G coverage. Clearwire's open all-IP network, combined with significant spectrum holdings, provides an unprecedented combination of speed and mobility to deliver next generation broadband access. The company markets its service through its own brand called CLEAR® as well as through its wholesale relationships with Sprint, Comcast and Time Warner Cable. Strategic investors include Intel Capital, Comcast, Sprint, Google, Time Warner Cable, and Bright House Networks. Clearwire is headquartered in Kirkland, Wash

4G technology

4G is the name given to the fourth generation of wireless technology. The technology proposals have been submitted to the International Telecommunication Union(ITU) as 4G candidates on Sept 2009. It's essentially the successor of 2G and 3G of mobile technology.
Confusion has often been caused by some mobile carriers who have launched products advertised as 4G but which are actually current so-called 3.9G technologies, and therefore do not follow the ITU-R defined principles for 4G standards.
